Including the Family in Fitness

Being active with your family isn’t just a way to get your heart rate going and calories burning, it’s building memories with them. When you turn off the T.V. and shut down the video games, you’re doing your kids a huge favor. There are so many benefits for being physically active with your children, it’s hard to even know where to start.

Physical Fitness

With all the technology going on around your kids, it’s easy to see why they want to sit at home and play X-Box. They’re being introduced to new and exciting things everyday. Lately, it seems like the computer is their best friend. It’s important to give them their personal free time, but it’s just as important to get them up on their feet. You may as well be whispering to your children when you tell them to go play outside. But when you go out with them, well, that message you’re sending loud and clear. Show them how they need to be active. Show them that being physically fit is fun and exciting. By instilling the importance of being active in them at a young age, they will carry that knowledge with them up into adulthood and be more prepared to exercise as adults. Go for a bike ride, take a canoe out on the lake, simply play tag out in the yard. Do whatever you can to help them want to stay motivated and active.

Family Bonding

For those of you with teenagers, believe me, your kids want to hang out with you. Sometimes they may not show it, and maybe it’s not twenty-four hours a day, but they do. Building memories with your children, at any age, is a priceless gift. And not only for them, these memories are for you too. This is your time with your kids to get your mind off the day to day stresses. It’s easy to get caught up in work sometimes, but exercising with your kids is a great way to spend quality time with them. Also, don’t forget they have their own daily stresses. Even young children have things they sometimes worry about. To get them really looking forward to staying fit, make it a tradition. Every Sunday afternoon, go to the park and pack a picnic. Take this time to really enjoy the company with your children. They will be grown before you know it and it’s important that they know how essensial living an active, healthy lifestyle is.
