When I lived back in Las Vegas, I didn’t live the healthiest lifestyle. I was newly married and packing on the honeymoon weight. Laugh all you want, I’m not ashamed, it happens to the best of us. Anyway, I live next door to a super model. Was she really a super model? Well, I don’t know that for sure, but she definitely looked like one. She had one of the most beautiful bodies I’ve ever seen, it was hard enough for me to not stare at her, I couldn’t really blame my husband.
You know what made me even more annoyed by her? Every time she opened the door, her three young children came running out. How the heck does someone who’s had three kids look like that? Your guess is as good as mine was. I never saw her go for a run or do any kind of working out, it was a continuous mystery as to how someone could be so physically flawless.
My (Past) Workout Habits
As for me, the only working out I did was bring the glass of wine to my mouth or reach into the chip bag. Lets just say my forearms were the only thing in shape, well not really. I knew I needed to get active and healthy, I just didn’t know where to start. Maybe I should see which doctor my neighbor used, clearly she must have had work done. Nah, I that’s just my jealousy talkin’. Come to find out, she didn’t use surgery to get that body. She used pilates reform.
I found this out because one day we were loading up the kids at the same time and she noticed I was wearing sneakers, “Going for a run?” she asked. Not quite I thought. I explained to her how I would love to get back into shape after having my daughter. My neighbor gave me her number and we decided to talk more about our health habits went we weren’t in such a rush.
Getting to Know Pilates Reform
A few days go by and we got together to talk about exercising together. She invited me to take a pilates reform class with her. I’ve learned that taking a class with a friend is a great alternative to pilates reform because it’s on the expensive side. I asked me neighbor, “What exactly is it?”
She goes on to tell me the details. Pilates focuses on breathing, concentrating and centering while completing very precise and fluid movements that strengthen and tone at the same time. I learn that it’s a whole body workout that doesn’t target one muscle group. You use your own body to strengthen all of it parts. Pilates creates mind-body awareness and truly makes you focus on what you’re doing and which muscles you’re working.
Great for Pregnancy
Pilates reform changed my neighbors life. I learn that she too was in a health rut after her second child. Once a friend introduced her to pilates, she never looked back. She was even able to safely workout using pilates reform while she was pregnant with her third child.
I was impressed. We decided to go to a class together and I’m so glad I did. That was a little kick start to my healthy living. Once we got there, I was instantly intimidated. There were large wooden machines everywhere with ropes, cords and elastic bands attached to them. What the heck am I doing here?
We had a private lessen, which helped my dignity. The last thing I wanted was to figure this thing out with a bunch of people around. However, come to find out, it was quite easy once you get the hang of it. I felt a deep burn in each and every one of my muscles throughout the whole pilates reformer exercise. Another thing I wasn’t expecting (but loved) was the stretch you get. Oh my goodness did the stretching feel good! I think I would have stuck to pilates reform just for the increase of flexability.
Beginning of a new lifestyle
I was hooked on it since then. My neighbor and I went to a couple more classes together, but I soon moved down to Miami. I continue pilates reform every now and then. The only downfall and reason why I don’t do it all the time is, frankly, it’s expensive. The only time I go is if a few of my girlfriends want to split the cost for one session, kinda like a private group session, like how I did it in Vegas. If you have the money, I highly recommend it. If you don’t want to spend the money, try seeing if any friends would want to give it a shot with you.
It’s totally worth it to do at least a couple times a month. Your strength will improve, as will you flexibility. And you don’t just build muscle, you build long, lean muscle. You will have a different shape if you use pilates reform as opposed to weight lifting, but equally as amazing. Your core will be strong and you’ll really be able to target your abs with every move on the pilates reformer (the bed they use). It is a fun, different way to get in shape and get ripped. Just think, why would Jennifer Aniston, Madonna, and even NBA star Jason Kidd do it if it didn’t work? Exactly!
