Three years ago, before I got into the great shape I am today, my husband and I thought up a reason to celebrate all the time. “Oh, you got a promotion? Great, lets break out the wine!” or “It’s our anniversary honey, let’s go out to celebrate!” or even, “It’s Wednesday!”
We found a reason to go out to restaurants, bars, clubs and even just drinking at home by ourselves. I know how that sounds, like we’re party animals or we drank too much. Maybe we were and maybe we did. But we were newly married, young and loved life. We found any excuse to go out with our friends and have a good time.
Birthdays were the most extravagant. We had lots of friends around and went to some of the coolest places in Las Vegas- we had the times of our lives. Needless to say, they weren’t the healthiest of times either.
Once I decided to get healthy and change my life for the better, I knew I had to change some of the stuff I loved to do as well. In the beginning, I was bummed out that I had to give up things that I enjoyed. But then I realized I didn’t have to give anything up, I just had to modify it!
My Boot Camp Birthday
Once I was on a roll with my healthy lifestyle and I saw my body making great progress, I didn’t want to ruin it with a night out drinking on my birthday. Frankly, I didn’t even want to risk going out to a restaurant in fear that I wouldn’t be able to find something healthy. So I asked my husband to throw me a boot camp birthday party instead!
It was so much fun. All of my friends and I met at the beach on Saturday morning. We all wore our workout clothes and waited for our instructor. My husband was able to get a group rate with one instructor teaching all of us.
We were all giggles until our instructor walked up. Oh my gosh, he was one of the most in shape people I’ve ever seen in real life. He had muscles in every inch of his body, he was ripped. As he walked closer, I noticed his stern face. Uh oh, I hope I didn’t make a mistake and plan a terrible time for my birthday.
Once he arrived to the circle that my six friends and I were standing in, he stared at each of us and suddenly yelled, “Drop and give me twenty,” This is going to be a long morning I thought. As we were all about to drop to the floor, he cracked a smile and informed us he was just kidding.
He told us that boot camp is supposed to be hard work, but it’s supposed to be fun too. So as he grinned from ear to ear and high-fived each of us yelling, “Let’s do this ladies,” we all felt a little relieved.
If you’re looking to get a good sweat in, have a great time, and get into amazing shape, you’ve got to try boot camp workouts.
Increases Your Cardio Fitness
Since during boot camp workout routines you have to stay moving the entire time, you’re giving your heart a fantastic workout. This speeds up your weight loss because a healthy heart burns more calories. You’ll also be able to handle fatigue better, such as hold your breath under water with your kids or be able to run around with them more outside.
Your Muscular Strength Improves
Think you get the best workouts lifting weights on big heavy machines? Nope, you don’t. Your muscles are constantly being worked in different way during a boot camp workout, therefore they are growing bigger and stronger from muscles confusion. With boot camp workouts, you’ll see more muscle definition and “cuts” way sooner.
He wasn’t kidding when he said it was hard work. Man oh man, he sent us on jogs along the beach, we were doing push-ups and crunches and a whole lot more. We even did some agility boot camp routines. As hard as it was, it was also so much fun! All of my girlfriends were so glad they did it and think that is what they want to do for their birthday too. I told them anytime they have a boot camp party, I’ll be there!
