Get an All Over Burn with Pilates
January 18th, 2012 by Ingrid Macher
Every once in a while, I like to throw my body for a loop and exercise in a new and different way that it’s not used to. I like to do this because when your body gets used to working out the same muscles with the same exercise, it predicts it and then gets used to it. When this happens, you need to change something up because you will stop losing weight and find it harder to grow muscle.
I advice all of my clients to prevent this from happening before it starts by switching up your workout routines. Once I feel I like my body needs a new challenge, I attend a class that I don’t normally go to or workout with a friend that I know will push me hard.
One of my favorite classes to go to is pilates, pilates has a little bit of everything for everyone. It involves stretching, muscle toning and balance. If you haven’t heard about it already, here are some amazing benefits of pilates.
Pilates is a great exercise because practically anyone can participate in it.
Ease into Working Out
If you’re currently out of shape or haven’t exercised in a while, pilates is a great way to ease back into the work out scene. The first reason is that I find pilates exercises make you very aware of your body and how your body is handling each exercise. There isn’t any stress that is put on your joints or strain on your ligaments. Pilates is so safe to do that you can actually practice pilates for weight loss everyday without harming yourself or over-doing it, unlike most other exercises. However, if you want to see real results, you should only stick to doing it about three times a week.
Increases Balance
Pilates makes you do do various exercises which involve your entire body, much like yoga. While you are working out other muscles, you have to constantly stabilize your core. All at the same time, you must maintain the stretch position you are in. You’re making your body multi-task in ways that it’s not used to.
Decrease Stress
The smooth transitions between movements help calm your mind and ease your nervous system. Your circulation increases as you are doing pilates with helps release any tension that you may have in your mind or in your body, which is caused by stretching and lengthening your muscles.
Recovers Body Aches
By stretching your muscles, you are allowing your body to increase flexibility with in turn helps aid soreness and fatigue caused by weight training. Even if you are not someone who often weight trains, soreness from day to day activities, such as sitting at a desk all day or lifting heavy objects, eases after doing pilates exercises.
