Melt Those Pesky Pounds With These Protein-Packed Meals
August 17th, 2012 by Ingrid Macher
All food is not created equally.
If we’re trying to lose weight… feel great… and get healthy, then we should be eating certain foods more than others.
We know that carbohydrates are great sources of energy. They’re a wonderful addition to any eating plan, as long as they’re eaten in the right amounts.
That’s the key point.
Don’t eat enough carbs and you feel flat and lifeless. But eat too many, and you’ll start putting on pounds.
It’s the same thing with fats.
Some of these self-proclaimed experts tell you that fatty foods should be avoided at all costs.
But since you follow the blog, you know that just isn’t true.
You know how important eating these healthy fats are for maintaining your mood and mental health. Your brain needs them. Your joints need them. Cutting them out of your diet would be a disaster. But again, they need to be eaten in the right amounts…
So if you’re eating carbs at only some meals… and fats only at other meals…
What does that leave us with?
Well, it leaves us with the only macronutrient left…
The type of food that will serve as your trusted ally on your mission to get slim and healthy.
It’s packed with the power to fuel and repair your muscles. It keeps your metabolism elevated, so you’re constantly burning fat… around the clock… without even thinking about it.
I’m talking about protein.
It’s the high-powered vital nutrient packed with essential amino acids needed by every cell of the human body to function, maintain, and grow.
Why is protein so important?
Well… the reason your body needs it… is because it’s what your body is made of!
Besides water, protein is the substance most commonly found in the human body. It makes up our muscles, our hair, our nails, all of our vital organs. Plus, the amino acids it contains are used to make enzymes, hormones, blood cells, etc.
I don’t want to get too complicated. I can go on and on about all the wonderful roles protein plays in keeping us alive…
But I’d rather get to the good stuff.
Stuff that you can use to look and feel great!
So, just know that protein is important.
In fact, it’s so important…
You Need To Be Eating A Serving Of
High-Quality Protein At Every Meal!
When you’re trying to blast away body fat, protein is the most important thing to eat.
And there are two reasons why.
The first reason? I already touched on it before. Protein boosts your metabolism. So eating protein every few hours (at every meal) is the easiest way to make sure your metabolism stays boosted all day long.
But the second reason is something most people fail to realize. It’s especially important if you want that type of trim, tight body most of us are striving for.
The reason is… protein helps preserve your muscle! Between eating healthy and doing fat blasting workouts, your body is going to be losing weight. But losing weight just isn’t enough when it comes to looking great…
You have to lose the right kind of weight… from the right places!
Without enough protein in your diet, your body will start breaking down your lean muscle tissue… muscles that allow you to look fit, shapely and toned.
So if you allow your body to break those muscles down… sure, you may weigh less on the scale…
But you’re going to look even flabbier than ever before.
You’ll be looking worse! A far cry from the healthy look you’re after.
But when you eat protein, it preserves your muscle tissue. It makes sure all the weight you lose comes from your stored fat instead. So you can find yourself leaning out much quicker.
Ok… so how do we make sure we eat enough protein each day?
Well, I know when you hear the word protein, a lot of people think about the protein powders they sell in the health stores.
While this can be a great way to get some a quick meal in when you’re pressed for time…
You want the majority of your protein intake to be coming from real, whole foods!
Great sources of protein are lean meats.
Chicken… turkey… fish… lean cuts of beef or pork…
All great options to build an eating plan around. Especially the white meats, as they’re lower in fat.
With some shredded chicken or beef, you have a bunch of delicious options to play with…
You can make stir-fry with some vegetables.
You can use it to top off a salad.
You can add some cheese and salsa and throw it into a delicious whole-wheat wrap (to get some healthy carbs in too).
But it doesn’t all have to be meat.
Even if you’re a vegetarian, you have some high-quality choices.
You can make a delicious breakfast omelet with some eggs.
You can grill up some delicious tofu burgers (or tempeh, which is even tastier).
You can enjoy a cup of greek yogurt.
The possibilities are almost endless. If you look around, you’re sure to find some recipes that appeal to you.
