Things aren’t always what they seem.
When it comes to our bodies and our health, we should never just blindly accept what people are telling us without questioning it.
Because there are a lot of things out there advertised as being healthy… that are actually far from it!
This leads us into making mistakes we don’t even know we’re making.
We see the commercials and think we’re doing the right things. We think we’re taking the
right steps to improving how we look and feel. We think we’re putting the right stuff into our bodies.
But some of those so-called “healthy” things we’re taking in might actually be making us fat!
Let’s look at sports drinks.
Their commercials always show people in great shape…
Athletes who are in amazing physical condition.
They show them working out hard. And then replenishing themselves with a cold sports drink.
So we see these athletes doing it. We see their fit, toned bodies. And of course we’d like to look like that, too… so we just accept that they’re doing the right things.
Since they’re drinking these sports drinks, we just accept that it’s healthy. And think we can do
Well, let’s take a look at what’s really going on here.
First, these athletes are being paid to be in these commercials. These companies make millions of dollars and pay these sports heroes to represent their brand. We don’t know if they actually
drink these drinks when they’re off camera.
And second, these are professional athletes! That means it’s their job to stay in shape. These guys and girls are training hard, full-time. Between six and eight hours per day… five days per week.
It’s their only focus!
They’re burning so many calories each day that it doesn’t really matter what they eat. They aren’t going to get fat.
I mean… look at Michael Phelps. The greatest Olympian of all time. He has 22 Olympic medals. 18 Gold medals!
But have you ever seen his diet? He’s been known to eat up to 10,000 calories per day!
And he gets away with it because of how hard he trains.
But if you or I were to try it, we’d blow up like a hot air balloon.
Because we have real lives. We don’t live in the gym. We’re not training 40 hours per week.
So we need to be much more careful about what we’re putting into our bodies.
And these sports drinks?
Even though their names try to trick us into thinking they’re healthy for us…
Sports drinks… Flavored waters… even “Vitamin” drinks…
Well, they’re most likely going to make us fat!
We’re told that they hydrate us and give us energy…
And yes, they do both those things…
But the energy they give us… comes purely from sugar!
I mean, have you seen the labels.
One serving of Vitamin Water has 13 grams of sugar.
A serving of Gatorade has 21 grams of sugar.
And this is just one serving!
What people don’t realize is that the bottles they’re buying usually contain
between 2.5 and 4 servings… so you’re looking at 30-60 grams of
And this is supposed to be healthy for us?
You already know what sugar does to your body. It causes insulin spikes
which tell your body to start storing fat.
And even if you go with the sugar-free options…
Those are loaded with artificial sweeteners that mimic the effects of the sugar. They cause us to crave sweets, making it much harder for us to make healthy choices.
So if we’re trying to look great and feel healthy, we have to stop with these drinks.
It’s garbage that we shouldn’t be putting into our bodies.
There are much better alternatives to drink. Even after a hard workout.
Well, you can never go wrong with water. Because that’s what your cells are made of. So it only makes sense that it’s what they’d be craving after a workout.
Exercise dehydrates us, and you need to hydrate those cells so they can recover. Water is the best way to do so.
If it’s too boring of a taste for you, you can add a squirt of lemon or lime for some added punch. It really adds flavor to it.
Another great option is coconut water.
Unlike sports drinks, coconut water is all-natural, making it a great choice to refuel on. It’s packed with nutrients, is loaded with potassium, and has tons of electrolytes to replenish
everything you lose through sweating.
Put those things together… and you have a recipe for a great-tasting drink that helps rehydrate you fast.
The other drink I recommend is hibiscus tea, or Jamaican water as it’s sometimes called.
This is another natural drink. It comes from the hibiscus flower and has a pleasant fruity taste. It’s packed with minerals and is especially rich in Vitamin C, which gives your immune system an extra boost.
All of these beverages are better choices than the so-called “sports drinks”…
And when you switch over to them… and cut all that unnecessary sugar out… you just may be surprised by how much quicker the weight starts coming off.
